FORT LAUDERDALE – Alex Hoover of Western scored 16 points, including four 3-pointers as Broward completed a swept Miami-Dade in the girls South Florida All-Star basketball games at Stranahan High on Saturday.

Hoover, who made three of her shots behind the arc in the second half, was named the game MVP. Eight players on the Broward roster had at least one 3-pointer.

Broward did a good job spreading the scoring as nine of its 10 players scored in the first half. Dillard’s Genovea Johnson, who helped lead the Panthers to the Class 7A state title earlier this month, scored 10 of her 16 points to help her team to a 42-31 halftime lead.

Though Miami-Dade cut the deficit to 10 points on a pair of occasions, Broward built a comfortable lead by converting 13 of 15 free throw attempts.

Dillard’s Ravin White and Kayla Burrows added 13 and 11 points respectively.

If the first game, American Heritage forward Paris Sharpe had 13 points to lead Broward to a 66-51 victory. She would be named the game MVP.

Miami-Dade was able to cut the deficit to two early in the second half after trailing 29-19 at the break.

Kamani Jones of South Broward and Sharpe scored nine and eight points respectively in the second half to help protect the lead. Gabrielle Gonzalez of Nova, who finished with 12 points, also added a pair of three-points.
