Western High senior Damari Monsanto continues to burn opposing defenses for 30-plus.
I watched the 6-foot-6 Division I prospect do it in a victory at Stranahan. He topped 30 points in a loss at defending 4A state champ Westminster Academy in the Hoop Exchange Southern Shootout.
Friday night, Monsanto poured in 39 points in a 10-point win over Cooper City.
Monsanto shot 14 of 32 from the field, including three 3-pointers, and was 8 of 9 from the free-throw line. He posted a double-double with 39 points, 17 rebounds and 7 assists, per coach Ken Kelly.
Monsanto played with Team Breakdown on the travel circuit. Tulane was the last school to come down and check him out.
He recently told me UConn, Tulane, Buffalo and Western Kentucky are some of the schools in the mix.
Western is out to a 6-2 start with the losses to Miami Norland at AmericanAirlines Arena and to Westminster Academy.
The Wildcats next play Lakeland Victory Christian on Thursday, Dec. 20, in the Kreul Classic.
