FORT LAUDERDALE – Ivan Reynolds and Jalen Haynes combined for 17 fourth quarter points as Dillard rallied to defeat North Miami 77-72 in a Class 6A regional quarterfinal on Thursday at Dillard High.

The Panthers (21-7) advance to host a regional semifinal against the Martin County on Tuesday.

“I think we were a little bit too relaxed at the start” said Dillard coach Darryl Burrows. “We missed to many layups and put to much pressure on ourselves.”

North Miami (15-7) ended its season losing five of six game. Dillard on the other hand, have won six straight games against Miami-Dade opponents in playoff games dating back to 2016.

Dillard trailed by as many as 10 points in the third quarter.

A fourth quarter 10-0 Panthers run was powered by a pair of monster dunks by Reynolds and Haynes.

Haynes finished with 22 points, despite foul trouble, and Mack had 18 points

“We made that run after talking about it at halftime,” said Burrows. “We had to make those easy baskets and dig in and play some defense. Without a doubt we’ll need to play better than this.”

Chandler Mack and Darryl Burrows Jr. added 13 points each for the Panthers.

Vee’Lesk Avin led the Pioneers with 19 points, while Carlos Hart had 18 points.

Too many missed shots in the paint and turnovers allowed North Miami to lead throughout the first half and go into the half leading 35-28.

Dillard stayed within striking distance of the lead by converting 8 of 10 free throw attempts in the second quarter.
