FORT LAUDERDALE – The Florida High School Athletic Association released the reclassification of boys’ and girls’ basketball for the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons.

The FHSAA also reduced the number of classifications from nine to seven that helped balance the number of schools within each classification.

Classifications were based solely on student enrollment, then geography.

District 14-6A for both boys’ and girls’ teams could be among the most competitive in the state. Joining 2019 champions Dillard girls and Blanche Ely boys teams are the following schools Dillard (boys), Plantation, Blanche Ely (girls), St. Thomas Aquinas, Fort Lauderdale, South Plantation, Nova.

The Dillard boys and St. Thomas girls each advanced to their respective state finals. Nova has also been one of the top girls’ teams in the state over the past 10 seasons.

Three-time defending Class 4A boys state champion Westminster Academy will now be teamed with Calvary Christian and Sagemont in District 12-3A. The Lions are classified with Oxbridge Academy, St. Andrew’s Chaminade-Madonna.

Next seasons regional playoffs will also be seeded based on record and strength of schedule.
