FORT LAUDERDALE – Stranahan boys’ basketball Terrance Williams coached prefers his team to be tested.
He got his wish against Schoolhouse Prep at the BoxScoreReport Shootout at Westminster Academy on Saturday.
However, an Anthony Lopez basket with 5.6 seconds remaining in regulation kept the Dragons from a hard-earned victory, falling to Schoolhouse Prep 54-53.
Lopez finished the night with a game high 23 points.
Stranahan was solid on defense but struggled on offense missing numerous easy baskets. In some cases, players chose to attempt a dunk, that resulted in a missed basket instead of a high percentage layup.
That proved to be the difference in the outcome of the game.
“We need better communication form a defensive standpoint,” said Stranahan coach Terrance Williams. “We had a pretty big lead and let it slip away. We shot too many jump shots when we didn’t need to.
We just didn’t execute down the stretch.”
Senior guard Dave Herard was the only player for the Dragons in double-figures, finishing with 14 points.
