PLANTATION – There was no doubt who the winner would be, just final score.

Led by American Heritage’s junior 6-foot-3 twin towers Taliyah and Tatyana Wyche, the Patriots cruised to a 50-18 in a Class 5A regional quarterfinal on Thursday.

The Patriots (21-4) will attempt to extend their six-game winning streak when they host Miami Killian/Miami Central winner in a regional semifinal on Tuesday. Heritage will enter that game as the top-ranked team in the state in class 5A.

Tatyana Wyche scored 12 points and here sister Taliyah added nine points to lead Heritage.

“The key from them is this their third year with us is they have improved from the time they came here,” said Patriots coach Greg Farias. “The common denominator is they are super athletic, which you can’t teach.”

With the sisters protecting the paint underneath, Boyd Anderson (13-15) was limited in its shot selection.

By halftime the winner had been decided as the Patriots had a commanding 37-9 lead. By that time the Wyche sisters had combined for 14 points.

“We have worked hard the last two years developing their game,” said Farias. “Scoring has been the big part as they’ve been able to rebound and block shots. They run the court and guard at all positions.”

The Wyche sisters aren’t the lone in the Patriots drive for a third straight title. Daniella Aronsky is a proven outside shooter, though she was limited with her time on the court on Thursday, she converted a pair of 3-pointers.

As games get tougher, the Wyche twins will be asked to do more. Farias feels good about the prospect of that happening.

“When they can to play here, I don’t think they knew how good they could be,” Farias said.
